Definitions from experts provide a complementary understanding of each other.

Djumhur and Moh. Surya (1975) suggests that guidance is a process of providing continuous and systematic assistance to individuals in solving the problems they face, in order to achieve the ability to understand themselves (self understanding), the ability to accept themselves, the ability to direct themselves (self direction), and self-direction. realization (self-realization) in accordance with the potential or ability in achieving adjustment to the environment, both family, school and school

Glenn E. Smith (1955) suggests: counseling is a process in which the counselor assists the counselee in making interpretations of the facts relating to the selection, plan or adjustment needed. James F. Adams (1965) suggests: counseling is a reciprocal relationship between two individuals in which one (counselor) helps another (counselee), so that he can better understand himself in relation to the life problems he faces at the time. that and in the future.

Some Guidance and Counseling experts include: Crow and Crow and in the book "Jear Book of Education" (1955) define guidance as a process of helping individuals to identify and find solutions to problems faced by utilizing all the abilities possessed by the person concerned. .

In line with that, Winkel (2005: 34) defines counseling as a series of the most basic activities of guidance in an effort to help the counselee/client face to face with the aim that the client can take responsibility for himself on special problems or problems.
